Close Encounters. A group exhibition. 2018
In other works exhibited, intimacy is evoked through scale. Gabrielle Raaff’s small, square paintings invite us to move closer, to look more carefully, to consider the ambiguity of her touching figures. Her mark-making is sparse; each pale silhouette described with only the simplest and most necessary forms. There is an economy to her paintings, a lightness of touch; she gives us just enough and nothing more.
